all edges of this cube are expanding at 3 centimeters per second for rate. How quick is the Surface Area changing when each edge = 1 cm?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

do you know what the equation/formula for the surface area of a cube is? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a = 6a^2 :(

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :) then could you take the derivative of that? :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12a :/

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

don't forget chain rule :) so dA/dt = 12 a da/dt word form if it would make more sense... the change in surface area over time equals 12 times a side times the rate of change of a side

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

a = 1 cm da/dt = 3 plug it into dA/dt = 12 a da/dt and solve :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yeah I think so :P
