OpenStudy (somy):

Van der Waals' forces increase with increasing no. of Contact points between the molecules.- contact points are the place where the molecules come close together. How do I find contact points? I kind of don't get it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe it has something to do with attraction and repulsion? (due to polarity of molecules/atoms just like in this picture?

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli plz could you help here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes please :(

Parth (parthkohli):

Being completely frank, I haven't studied Van der Waals forces properly yet. I just looked it up on Wikipedia. I'd respond if there's any progress.

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli owhhhh...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh crap :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm...oh well thank you

Parth (parthkohli):

A contact point doesn't seem to be any formal thing in Van der Waals force. But I think the lines mentioned in the question make sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lines mentioned, I'm sorry but I don't follow :o

Parth (parthkohli):

"contact points are the place where the molecules come close together.' Makes sense...

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli thnx anyways :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooooh yes

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli i know but i don't know how to figure where are they

Parth (parthkohli):

These are just the places where the forces acting on each other are visibly large. In that diagram, the contact points seem to be the really small gaps between all those molecules/ions/whatever.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you @ParthKohli :D

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli is it like dipole-dipole stuff?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes, that's what I gathered from the passage.

Parth (parthkohli):

And I'm not 72, no! I'm not that old! I'm only 70.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O_O what is this about?

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli i don't even feel like you are close to 70 O_O

Parth (parthkohli):

I'm actually 70 divided by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmmm......

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli no thats too less lol

Parth (parthkohli):

I actually am.

OpenStudy (somy):

oh hell no, you can't be younger then me O_o"

OpenStudy (somy):

@ParthKohli

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'mma leave now ^^' good luck
