OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHat if I don't have a ^ to answer my question though Im sorry I don't understand :c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's used t show that the next number is an exponent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it means power of (^)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like 2^2 = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ means *point upward* the the answer above me :DDD

OpenStudy (phi):

we use 3^2 when we can't write it this way \[ 3^2 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@annas I get it now think you ( So its like a plus sign eh?

OpenStudy (phi):

no, it does not mean plus it means, *multiply by itself that many times* examples: 2^1 = 2 2^2 = 2*2 = 4 2^3 =2*2*2 = 8 and so on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, when you have a power it signifies to multiply by that power: 3^2=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welcome :D you can also call it exponential sign :)

OpenStudy (phi):

It was invented because people wanted a shorter way to write things like 8*8*8*8*8 that is 8 times itself 5 times, so they the short way to write it is \[ 8^5 \] or , if you are at a computer, 8^5
