What number must each side of the equation 2/3x =16 be multiplied by to produce the equivalent equation, x=24?
i dont get it.. :/
Ok what you have to do in a situation like this is multiply both sides by the reciprocal of the number multiplied by x
The reciprocal of 2/3 is 3/2. (You just switch the numnerator and demoninator)
Does that make sense?
so ok...no not really..sorry.. :/ well the reciprocal i do..
ok. :)
thanks for not giving me the answer i kinda need to learn this..i never did get it.
OK when you have a number multiplied by x, and it's a fraction, it will have a reciprocal
When you multiply a number by a reciprocal, it will always equal to 1. Ex. |dw:1398817168890:dw|
Does that make sense
hold on..studyin it..sorry bout that.
No problem at all, take your time
thanks...one thing.uh i do get it a bit more...but i was also looking at the problem.. umm how am i suppose to bring the reciprocal to...ohh what i don't..okay keep on going. nvm... I'll ask later.
This concept has always been applied to basic algebra. Remember how when you solve an equation like: 5x = 10 x = 2 What they're doing is dividing by 2. But another interpretation is that they multiplied both sides of the equation by (1/5). When you have a number times x (ax), and you multiply it by the reciprocal of that number (1/a), then you will get x. You want to multiply the number by its reciprocal to make the number equal to 1 so it would be 1(x) which is just x. It's just a method of getting rid of the number and just leaving x. ax * (1/a) = x
This is what they're doing for your problem. They have (2/3)x = 16. We are just supposed to find the reciprocal of (2/3) and then multiply it by both sides of the equation. This will get x by itself and we can clearly see what x is equal to
Let me know if you don't understand anything herr
well i get somewhat of it... so i need to multiply...but what i dont get is how do i multipy Both sides of the equation..thats what i dont get.
so the answer is the reciprocal?
You can multiply both sides of an equation by any number
The number you want to multiply it with in this case is the reciprocal
ok..
Yup so just find the reciprocal and that will be your answer
wow me.. lol thanks!!
