when solving for x, you would first subtract 2y from both sides. Then you would divide by both sides by 4 to get x by itself: \[4x+2y=5\]\[-2y -2y\]\[4x=-2y+5\]\[\div4 \div4\]\[x=\frac{ -2 }{ 4 }y+\frac{ 5 }{ 4 }\]\[x=\frac{ -1 }{ 2 }y+\frac{ 5 }{ 4 }\] and that is as far as you can simplify the equation. hope this helped :)
