A building has a ramp to its front doors to accommodate the handicapped. If the distance from the building to the end of the ramp is 17 feet and the height from the ground to the front doors is 7 feet, how long is the ramp? (Round to the nearest tenth.)
|dw:1399163264988:dw| i would use the pythagorean therm right?
7^2+x^2=17^2? 49+x^2=196 x^2=147 x=7sqrt3 is that right?
yes
okay well how do i get an answer in feet?
I think it's already expressed in ft since the other measures (17 and 7) were given in ft.
no its not cuz i only have these answers to choose from 4.9 ft 15.5 ft 18.4 ft 9.9 ft
hmm.. \(7\sqrt3 \text{ft}\) is the answer. \(\sqrt3\) is a number between .. what and what? even with rough bounds you should be able to find the answer
idk 7sqrt3=12 and thats 3 numbers off either way so i have no idea .-.
The drawing is wrong
You're finding the hypotenuse :P, you have the legs.
ah.. no the drawing should be like this: |dw:1399164067943:dw|
a^2+b^2 = c^2 7^2+17^2 = c ^2 c = 18.3
Or yes, good job @reemii on figuring that out! :)
ohmy gosh thank you .-. i was wondering why that wasnt coming out to an answer XD
Np :), it happens, just reread it a few times to make sure!
