I need help (Please don't go away if u know the answer)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let f(x) be a polynomial function. If f(x) is divided by (x-1) , (x+1) and (x+2) , then the remainders are 5 , 3 and 2 respectively. When f(x) is divided by x^3 + 2x^2 -x - 2 , then the remainder is ?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Do you know remainder theorem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (aravindg):

If p(x) / (x – a) = q(x) with remainder r(x), then p(x) = (x – a) q(x) + r(x) Apply it here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What will be q(x) here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SO, f(x)=(x-1)q(x) +5

OpenStudy (aravindg):

q(x) is actually the factor of f(x). Use the given info and you get 3 eqns in q(x).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x)=(x-1)q(x) +5 f(x)=(x+1)q(x) +3 f(x)=(x+2)q(x) +2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after this @AravindG

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Solve the equations for q(x).
