OpenStudy (anonymous):

expand the binomial = (2x-3)^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got this one wrong but I don't know why/what I did wrong. I replaced the -3 with Y, and then added the -3 at the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 2x^4+8x^3*-3+12x^2*9+8x*-27+81

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

u have to take 2 out it will look like (2^4)*(x-3/2)^4 now expand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't follow why (x-3/2)

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

because u will get the form (x-a)^n u can also keep is as (2x-3)^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then would the next one be 4(2x-3)^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one are you working on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on the triangle for the 4th row first there is a 1 then a 4. for that 4 would it = 4(2x-3)^3 you know what I mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did you get 4(2x-3)^3 from? is it a new problem ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just want to know how to do (2x-3)^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He took the 4 out of the power and placed in front and subtracted 1 from N almost like taking the derivative of the function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what the binomial theorem says?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

were you being taught to expand using Pascal triangle or the formula for (x+y)^n ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am used to using the triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know how to use it with (2x-3)^4 tho

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the trick is this: first, since n = 4, you know you'll have 5 (yes five) terms. so do this:|dw:1399279839061:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is suppose to be in one line, but i'm out of room. Next, fill in the exponents. |dw:1399279989486:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now next is -3, so fill in the -3's|dw:1399280074302:dw|
