Classify the figure in as many ways as possible. A.rectangle; square; quadrilateral; parallelogram; rhombus B. rectangle; square; parallelogram C.rhombus; quadrilateral; parallelogram D.square; rectangle; quadrilateral
Do you know what those terms mean?
I belive it is D did you look on google
Yes i do :)
A quadrilateral is a 4 sided polygon. We can agree this is a quadrilateral.
what did it say do you even know the name of the shape
I can tell you that D is not the answer.
Ok
A quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides is a rhombus. Is this a rhombus?
what grade are you in Tillie<3
oh well does any body know how to do 6th grade work?
@Tillie♥ You asked the question. Are you interested in an answer?
Yes im trying to figure out what it might be :)
@mathstudent55 would it be A?
@ Tillie<3 Do you know how to do 6th grade math
Ya Why?
nevermind
I'm not telling you which one it is. Instead, if you answer my questions, you'll get to the answer and you'll understand the answer.
Ok sorry umm yes
Look at the figure. You see the little mark on each side (not the triangles in 2 sides)? What do they mean?
wht are thay
No need to apologize. Let's just continue. So far we know it is a quadrilateral since it has 4 sides. The little marks mean all sides are congruent. That means all sides have the same length. A quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides is a rhombus. Now we know this is a quadrilateral and a rhombus.
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral that has two pairs of opposite sides that are parallel.
The mark for showing lines are parallel is a little triangle or a little arrow.
The picture is showing that the top side and the bottom side are parallel. That's why it has those little triangles on those sides.
Remember, the definition of a parallelogram is that it is a quadrilateral with both pairs of sides parallel. We only know that one pair of sides is parallel.
@mathstudent55 can you help me or no
There is a way of showing that a quadrilateral is a parallelogram with only one pair of sides known to be parallel. If one pair of sides is parallel and congruent, then it is a parallelogram.
In fact we know that. All sides are congruent, so the top and bottom sides are congruent. In addition, the top and bottom sides are also parallel, so this is a parallelogram. Now we know this much: Quadrilateral, rhombus, parallelogram
ok That make sense
Now let's deal with a rectangle. A rectangle is a parallelogram with 4 right angles. We are not told there are any right angles here, so we can't conclude this is a rectangle. What about a square? A square is a parallelogram and a rhombus, but a square also needs 4 right angles. We don't have right angles here, so we can't conclude this is a square.
All we can conclude is what we already have: Quadrilateral, rhombus, parallelogram
So it is C!
correct
Thank you so much for helping i understand better now :)
