A child throws a snowball at a tree and it sticks to the tree. Does this motion defy the Law of Conservation of Momentum? Explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think? do you know what law of conservation of Momentum is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uuuh I think it defies the Law of Conservation of Momentum because after the collision, the momentum should transfer from the snowball to the tree; thus, the snowball would fall, changing it's course. By sticking to the tree, the snowball is continuing on it's path instead of losing it's momentum like it should. Sorry. I'm new to physics. I may be wrong.
