High BP (Hypertension) Blood pressure is simply the force exerted by the blood pushing on the walls of the arteries. When BP is high, it can causes weakness on the arterial wall. Which answer do you think having a high BP, now knowing the definition, would cause? Which answer do you think is not CAUSED by excess force on the arterial wall? Hypertension can lead to increased risk of stroke Strokes are caused when either a blood vessel leading to the brain gets a clot, or when it bursts. Having a high BP can cause your arteries to weaken, thus making it easier to suffer a stroke. High BP can also lead to higher risks in getting atherosclerosis, which is pretty much the build up of plaque in the coronary arteries. This leads to increased chances of suffering a heart attack, which is simply a clog in the coronary arteries. The heart is supplied oxygen by these arteries and need them to function. In the case of the kidneys, hypertension causes damage to the vessels in them. When the vessels are damaged, they cannot function properly and the kidneys can shut down. Chronic Kidney Disease (CDK) or Kidney Failure.
