William Shakespeare, you should have just asked this to me directly. Shakespeare wrote at least 38 plays in his lifetime. His impact on the Renaissance however wasn't based upon the volume of his literary workings however. It was based more upon the depth and story, the way his characters were portrayed. He didn't have any "Flat" characters. All his characters had depth and a voice, a voice he made sure his readers heard. The Renaissance was all about progress and rebirth. Progress was made when Shakespeare contributed at least 3000 words to the English language. He changed the way people thought of the theatre. I can only contribute to Shakespeare I'm afraid, but I have a feeling that Cervantes will be a very similar case. Don Quixote was one of the best stories I've read.

For Cervantes: Miguel de Cervantes was only twenty-two when he was exposed to humanism and other Renaissance ideas. Cervantes would go on to write the novel Don Quixote de la Mancha. It was about an idealistic man who believes he is a knight and goes on a quest. But he is often deceived by what he sees. The book was a bridge between the medieval romance tale and the modern novel. It was influenced by the humanistic idea that people in their reality were just as important as one-dimensional symbolic characters. Hope this helps too, although i'm way late :p :)
