Please help..... For the function y=1^x, make a table with integer values of x from 0 to 4. Then graph the function (you do not need to submit the graph). Does the graph of show exponential growth, exponential decay, or neither? Explain your thinking.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

@johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Alright...so we have \[\large 1^x\] We need to know that 'y' equals when we make x = 0,1,2,3 and 4 so lets do that |dw:1399561816608:dw| When you plug 0 in for 'x' what do you get?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

0,

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Not quite....it's important to remember...anything to the 0 power...= 1 \[\large 1^0 = 1\] Okay?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Now what about when you plug in 1? and 2? 3? etc...

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Wow...i knew that..but i wasn't quite sure...but it is going to be 1 for the rest right?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Mmhmm 1 to ANY power will give you 1...so you just have a table that looks like |dw:1399562229585:dw| If this was exponential growth..that number would at least grow And if it was decay..it would at least shrink....so this is...?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

neither..

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

"The medal goes to !!!" lol Great job! :)

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Haha!!:) thanx.....you too..i knew you were going to help me understand it easily...:) lol..

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Of course :)
