OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Which of the following statements is true? A. There is more water on Earth now than there was millions of years ago. B. There is less water on Earth now than there was on Earth millions of years ago. C. There is no way to tell how much water was on Earth millions of years ago D. There is the same amount of water on Earth now as there was millions of years ago.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

@agent0smith @AlexaByers98 @ganeshie8 @Hero @Koikkara @Reaper534 @Warriorz13

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

My best thought is either B or C what do you think?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

There would probably be more now, because of meteoroid collisions with Earth, which might have been carrying deposits of ice.

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

True but then what all that evaporates doesn't come down

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

And then what about the water we use to make foods and drinks They get turned into waste but not back into water

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

Just thinking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actially there is less water becasue many just waste it

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

^that is still water, and water that evaporates generally does come back down to earth http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/questions/question/1889/

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Wasted water does not = water that is literally gone from Earth.

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

I agree with @Reaper534

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Yah @agent0smith is right on that ^^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i went to a weather program and they told us that water is going by fast

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they told us that there is less water

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

OK

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Water can't leave earth, except via escaping from the upper atmosphere, or breaking down into hydrogen and oxygen. If you waste water, you haven't actually removed water from earth, it's still very much here.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

So whats the answer?

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

D

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Google it and you'll get varying answers.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Is it A or b?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

I ment B or D?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

I did, it didnt help me

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

The answer is D

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

based on what smith said and he is smarter than anyone here its probably D then

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

D

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

B?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Thanks everyone :)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

^that's exactly my point... you shouldn't be able to find a correct answer. There's no way to be sure. Teachers shouldn't ask this expecting one correct answer. Idk. Either A, B or D is reasonable. Comets bring water, some probably escapes. Probably about the same amount of water, so i guess D... but who knows for sure.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

It was D :)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

The answer being D does make D correct, tho, it just means that's what the teacher decided on. A or B are possible too.

OpenStudy (warriorz13):

OK
