What is the slope of a line that passes through the point (−2, 3) and is parallel to a line that passes through (3, 7) and (−2, −8)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you have to find the slope between the two point of the one line given. So y2-y1/x2-x1. Then you have a slope. The line you're trying to find needs to be parallel to this so the slope has to be the same. Now that you know this, you have to use the point the line needs to pass through and the slope you just found and plug into y=mx+b to find the b. The slope is m. And the point the line needs to pass through is (x,y). So now you solve for b.

Slope should be 3, and the b should be 9. So your equation should be y=3x+9
