The rectangular coordinates of a point are given. Find polar coordinates for the point. (Enter your answer using r > 0 and 0 ≤ θ < 2π. Round your answers to two decimal places.) (1, 1)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, first, find what the radius is.

Well... the only time when x equals y in polar coordinates is when you have pi/4, so that's the angle

The point is clearly not on the unit circle, so r is not 1, but some number. You just need to figure out what number, when multiply by sqrt(2)/2 equals 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that number is sqrt(2), so that's your r. That's it! :)
