Identify the factors of 4x2 + 12x + 9.

is this for a test or homework of something so i can better understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the easiest way to find the factors would be to plug them into the quadratic equation \[x=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac} }{ 2a }\] for ax^2+bx+c so in your case a=4 b=12 and c=9 you should get 2 possible answers and those would be your factors, hope this helps!

One thing to think about is if there is a relationship between the outer and inner coefficients. There are some methods for doing this, which I do not remember the best of, but if you look at 4, 12, and 9, do you see any relationship between the factors of 4 and the factors of 9 that can add up to 12? A quick look might save you time over doing the quadratic formula for every quadratic equation.
