OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is it unlikely that parents of a child could ever give birth to another child that is identical twin to their first child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well each person that is given birth has their own unique set of genes. twins are different since they shared the womb together and have the same genetic information for the most part

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

the first and second child cannot be exactly same even though they r from the same parents is because every time a sperm and egg is formed by meiosis crossing over occurs and sort of recombination and shuffling of genes occur....so if u have AA gene ur sibling might have aa....its all based on shuffling.... hope this helped..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, the odds of this occurring are known. I cannot remember the exact number but I think it was closed to 1 in 64 million. @shrutipande9 has the best answer. Due to all the recombination events that can occur at random, it is almost impossible to have the same mix of genes. Especially when you remember that recombination can result in completely knew genotypes, with respect to the parents.
