May somebody help me on this question please. Kim performed a transformation on triangle ABC to create triangle A'B'C' as shown in the figure below:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What transformation did Kim perform to create triangle A'B'C'? Reflection across the x-axis Rotation of 270 degrees counterclockwise about the origin Reflection across the y-axis Rotation of 90 degrees counterclockwise about the origin

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Did a reflection or rotation take place?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It looks like a reflection

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct (notice how the orientation is flipped)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to go from A to B to C, you go counter clockwise but to go from A' to B' to C', you're going the opposite way: clockwise so that's what I mean by "orientation is flipped"

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

whenever you have orientation reversed, you're going to have a reflection (since everything is backwards)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you need to find out which line you're reflecting over

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So in this case the answer would be C

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

draw an xy axis and label them |dw:1400099655867:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

|dw:1400099671141:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh so its A because it reflected itself that way @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes that is correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
