Which best identifies the underlined clause? Some animals cling to rocky surfaces, and others ----- hide in crevices or under seaweed. ----------------------------- A. independent clause B. noun clause C. adverb clause D. adjective clause

others starts the underlined clause

OpenStudy (poetryprincess):

It's an independent clause.

Okay, I agree with PoetryPrincess, here's why! Noun Clause: is when a group of words come together to form a new noun (ex: I like what I see. - "what I see" is the noun clause). Adverb Clause: is when a group of words come together to form a new adverb (ex: Keep playing piano until I tell you to stop. - "until I tell you to stop" is the clause.) Adjective Clause: is a group of words together forming a new adjective. (ex: The carpets which you bought last year are all dirty. - "which you bought last year" is the clause.) An independent clause can stand alone and still be a complete sentence, so test it on the sentence: "Others will hide in crevices or under seaweed." Yep, it fits best in my opinion!
