>>GIVING MEDAL, AND FANNING!<< A tire has a diameter of 16 inches. How far does the car travel if the wheel goes around three times? Sketching this problem out may help you. Use 3.14 for π. 4.2 ft 150.8 ft 50.24 ft 12.6 ft

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this one will use the Circumference; 3 times around is equal to 3 circumferences agreed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Agreed, so it would be: 150.8?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we wanted the answer in inches, that would be correct, but htat ones a trap. notice that they want the dimension of feet instead. 12 inches = 1 foot, so lets divide 150.8 by 12 to convert it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12.7?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or 12.6 is fine :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is that 5 a measure of the whole base? or just the one little segment?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

oy its early, the base IS that little segment

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, how do we find the area of a triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Base x height / 2.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

A = bh/2 they give us A and b 22.5 = 5h/2 , now we solve for h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

might help to keep the dimensions ... some people lose track of it and I see that they have options of m and m^2 which one would you say the solution to h has for it - m or m^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct, so h m will be the results; what do we get for h?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9m is the answer, right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct :) see, now that I have more data on you, your intelligence quotient i snot as skewed. in other words, your responses are much improved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Last one.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

tell me your thought process for this one, ill correct you if need be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I know I have to find the area of the triangle and the rectangle, so lets do the rectangle first. So, I took 22 and subtracted 14 to see what the triangles base was and it was 8. Then, having the base be 14, I multiplied, 14 x 12 and got 168. The area is 168 cm2. The triangle: I'm pretty sure the side is 12 and I know the base is 8. So, I multiply 12 x 8 and get 96. Then, I divide by two, leaving me with 48. Next, I add 168 and 48 to get the total area. I got 216. So, the area is 216 cm2.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i get 216 as well, but let me dbl chk my own process: |dw:1400345057837:dw| 12(14) + 12(8)/2 12(14) + 12(4) 12(14 + 4) 12(10 + 8) 1 120 + 96 ------ 216 yep
