Can someone explain how to do this...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Use the Pythagorean theorem. You know the length of the hypotenuse of that triangle (it's the radius of the circle). You know one leg of the triangle from the problem statement. Find the other leg, which is half of the length of the thing you are to find.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

post your answer and I'll check it for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I keep getting answers that aren't right

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

well, show me your work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11^2 + b^2 = 24^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

121 + b^2 = 576

OpenStudy (anonymous):

576 - 121 = 227.5/ 2 = 113.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

....

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

576-121 = what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

227.5

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

let's try that again. 576 -121 -----

OpenStudy (anonymous):

455 oops was putting in the wrong numbers

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

okay, now take the square root of 455 to get the length of BC. double the length of BC to get the length of AB

OpenStudy (anonymous):

42.664......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so 42.7 thank you

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

now round to the nearest tenth as instructed, and choose your answer
