If f(x)=2x^2−x−6 and g(x)=x^2−4, find f(x)÷g(x) . I understand how to plug it in and what not and multiply, add, or subtract, but I cannot figure out how to divide the functions. Help?!??

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Set it up first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^2-x-6/x^2-4 ?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Right, now factor top and bottom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ (x-3)(x+2) }{(x-4) (x-4) }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I simplify past that? multiply denom? @Luigi0210

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You might wanna check your factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the bottom or the top?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the bottom factor x-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the answer be 2x-3/x-2?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yes, it would be, and sorry about that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's okay! thank you @Luigi0210
