Please help! Will fan/medal A triangle has vertices (1, 4), (1, 1), and (−3, 1). The triangle is dilated by a scale factor of 2, then translated 5 units up, and then rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise about the origin. What are the vertices of the image of the triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are three transformations given. Apply each of the three to each vertex of the triangle. For example let me show that for the vertex (1, 1). A) Dilation by scale factor 2 Multiply the x and y coordinates by 2: (1*2. 1*2) = (2, 2) B) Translated 5 units up Add 5 to the y-coordinate: (2, 2 + 5) = (2, 7) C) Rotate by 90 degrees Apply (x, y) => (-y, x) rule: (2, 7) => (-7, 2) Hence the vertex (1, 1) becomes (-7, 2) Can you apply the three steps above for the other two vertices ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for (1,4) (1*2,4*2) = (2, 8) (2, 8+5)= (2, 13) then flip it and it would be (13,2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or (-13, 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-13, 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for (-3,1) (-3*2, 1*2) = (-6, 2) (-6, 2 + 5) = (-6, 7) = (-7, -6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does the -6 stay the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the three new vertices are (-7, 2), ((-13, 2) and (-7, -6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes
