In an oil spill, why does the oil not mix with the sea water?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they do not mix because water is a polar molecule, so it likes to take sides. one side of the molecule is positively charged, and the other is negatively charged. oil is non polar, which makes oil molecules more attracted to each other than water molecules, so they do not mix.

Thanks! :)
