OpenStudy (awesome781):

A student walks 15 paces West then 7 paces South then 8 paces East and finally 5 paces North. What is the resultant from the start to the finish? @johnweldon1993 @timo86m

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Alright so same thing there... |dw:1401131662246:dw| now right now..that looks terrible but...look closely

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

|dw:1401131756780:dw| make sense there?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

and also |dw:1401131818867:dw|

OpenStudy (awesome781):

kinda confused ...

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Alright...so lets try and break that down

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

so they start by walking 15 to the west right? and later on...they choose to go back 7 to the east....

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Or sorry they choose to go back 8*** to the east

OpenStudy (awesome781):

so like 15-7

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right....because its like they are going backwards

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

|dw:1401132049293:dw|

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

so they only really ever went <--- units...since they went 15...and then went back in that direction 8...so 15 - 8 = 7

OpenStudy (awesome781):

oh i thought it would be 15-7=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think this is vector addition consider W=-j , E=+j, S=-i, N=+i the components Something like that. I haven't done it in a while
