explain what it means to state that energy is transferred in order for any change of state to occur. give at least two examples

Energy transferred can be absorbed or emitted. Energy transferred to change the state of a substance without changing its temperature is called latent heat, there two types of latent heat: latent heat of fusion (from ice to liquid vice versa) and latent heat of vapourization( from liquid to vapour vice versa). When energy is transferred to an substance kinetic ( internal) energy increases for example: In water, from ice to liquid the particles not only vibrates but they began to move freely around each other. And when energy is transferred from a substance kinetic ( internal) energy decreases, for example: If you place an ice cube into the palm of your hands it will melt and your palm will become cooler. Note that thermal energy is the type of energy being referred to, the lower the temperature the lower the energy or enthalpy of the substance. Your will become cooler because energy is transferred from your hand to melt the ice. And heat energy always moves in the direction where less heat is present.
