What is the solution to the equation? 2q + 18 = –5q – 3 A. q = –5 B. q = –3 C. q = 3 D. q = 5

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

to solve for a variable you want to try to get the variable alone the first step would be to get all the terms with the variable to one side so first add 5q to both sides then subtract both sides by 18 then divide both sides by 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be 3

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

when you subtract both sides by 18 you would get a negative 21 on the right, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes Subtract 18 from -3 2q=-5q-21 Add 5q to 2q 7q=-21 divide -21 by 7 A=-3

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, that would be correct :)
