A triangle has vertices (1, 4), (1, 1), and (−3, 1). The triangle is dilated by a scale factor of 2, then translated 5 units up, and then rotated 90° counterclockwise about the origin. What are the vertices of the image of the triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1, 4), (1, 1), and (−3, 1) okay so moving 5 units up effects the y - axis only (1,8) (1,5) and (-3, 5) Rotating counterclockwise about the origin - now you didn't state where this Origin is so i have presumed it is the point (1,5) because it is closest point to origin (0,0) (-2,5) (1,5) (1,1) and then scale factor of 2 (-6,5) (1,5) (1,-4) Hope This Helps!

Thank you! so the final answer would be (-6,5) (1,5) (1,-4) ?

Yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you made a very small mistake

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

For these, order of operation matters. Watch: Up 5, then double: (1,1) becomes (1,6) becomes (1,12) Double, then up 5: (1,1) becomes (2,2) becomes (2,7) Very different answers, so changing the order at all will get you the wrong answer.
