OpenStudy (shelld93):

Is this picture correct ?

OpenStudy (shelld93):

|dw:1401782979678:dw|

OpenStudy (shelld93):

the line is meant to be y=x

OpenStudy (john_es):

It is ok. The line y=x bisects the first and third quadrant, so it is ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=x passes through 45 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it is correct

OpenStudy (shelld93):

Thank you :) What are the co-ordinates for the point of intersection ? That means where the two lines I have drawn meet isn't it ?

OpenStudy (john_es):

In the graph, I see only one line and the axis x-y. If you mean where the line cut these axes, you'll see that the point is (0,0).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The axis lines do not count as actual lines

OpenStudy (shelld93):

Sorry ! I forgot I'm not on my other post ! @No.name would understand that previous question. I meant with the line we drew last night.

OpenStudy (john_es):

Ok.

OpenStudy (shelld93):

@No.name Where'd that big post go ? I was reading and it disappeared :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this the question you need to find out ? Ok, the equation of the line last night we drew was y= 4x -9 The equation of the line this time is y=x So we need to solve them simultaneously y-4x= -9 --->1 y-x = 0------>2 We subtract 2 from 1 3x = -9 x= -9/3 x= -3 Substitute the value of x into any of the above eqautions 1 and 2 You would get the value of y After that Write it as (value of x , value of y ) This is the point where the two lines intersect

OpenStudy (shelld93):

so they intersect at -4,-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not commenting wether it is correct or not but how did u do that

OpenStudy (shelld93):

well subtract 2 from 1. x-x is nothing y-y is nothing that leaves -4 and -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it isn't correct i am sorry, -4x is whole quantity u subtract -x from it u get -(-) = + So we get x = -3 It is better you ask your teacher because explaining through OS is difficult if you don't know the basics :-)

OpenStudy (shelld93):

okay so can you draw out the working for that for me please ? I cant really talk to a teacher as im in an online university course and seeing a lecturer is nearly impossible. Its a kinda fend for yourself thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It cannot be drawn , it is analytical not graphical

OpenStudy (shelld93):

so what can be shown for working out ? is it just a knowing thing ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just showed the working above ^

OpenStudy (shelld93):

y-4x= -9 --->1 y-x = 0------>2 We subtract 2 from 1 3x = -9 x= -9/3 x= -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :-

OpenStudy (shelld93):

so x=-3 on its own is correct ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-3, value of y ) Find the value of y now y-(-3) = 0 y+3 = 0 y = -3 So they will intersect at (-3, -3) END OF STORY

OpenStudy (shelld93):

oh im sorry ..

OpenStudy (shelld93):

thank you ..
