Find the derivative of f(x) = 3x + 8 at x = 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

easy :D what is derivitive or 3x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand what to do. Would I be substituting 4 for x in 3x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x + 8 1st you can break up polynomials into pards D(3x) + D(8) 2nd D(8) derivative of a constant is 0. 3rd D(3x) = 3 I think it is the powers rule the answer is just 3 a straight line |dw:1401998793519:dw| So at 4 the answer is 3 as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Derivitive is 3 everywhere infact

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help me with one that's in fraction form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

Find the derivative of f(x) = 5/x at x = -1. So first I have to do what again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5/x is the same as 5* 1/x which is the same as 5*x^(-x) I'll do pic hold on |dw:1401999530536:dw| then use the powers rule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be -5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one step at a time what is |dw:1401999678917:dw|
