Given how the process of evolution appears to occur, how might concepts presented in Unit 6: Evolution, be used to help predict how any given organism might evolve in the future? How might this knowledge lead to human intervention, positive or negative, in that organism’s natural evolutionary process?
@monee23 What concepts were presented?
Welcome to OpenStudy! With this assignment, you'll have to do it on your own. We are unaware of the things you had learned in this sacred unit.
We learned about Evolution (Natural Selection, Changes in lifestyle, Fossils, etc) as a whole. As in different theories from Mendel to Charles Lyell.
@monee23 Well, what is each concept? Natural selection tells us that the most fit contribute the most to the next generation. Changes in lifestyle/environment can result in radiations as species evolve to fill open niches, fossils give us evidence that lifeforms were less complex as we move backwards through Earth's "life". Mendel provides the first real evidence of the genetic basis of natural selection.
I was actually thinking of an answer along the lines of for the first part (The concepts that were presented in this unit can help predict how any given organism might evolve in the future by looking at the past track-record and building on previous studies. By looking at specific organisms evolution in the past, you may be able to figure out or make a hypothesis on what will happen later on.)
Sorry its all so long. I'm working on the second part i just need to figure out what human intervention is. @mrdoldum you have earned a medal!
@monee23 I only described the topics, not how they applied to your question. I think you are on the right track.
Still, thank you for your help. You're on a roll today
