(3x) (8x3)

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

\[3x * 8x^{3} = ?\] When multiplying variables and coefficients, first, multiply the coefficients, which are the numbers in front the variables. Next, when multiplying similar variables, add their exponents. So, for example, x^3 * x^5 = x^8

OpenStudy (mrnood):

3x is just a shot hand way of writing 3*x 8x^3 is just shorthand for 8* x^3 so\[3x \times8x ^{3} = 3 \times x \times8\times x ^{3}\] but the order of multiplying doesn't matter so \[3\times8\times x \times x ^{3} \] You can group the multiplications if oyu want... \[(3\times8)\times(x \times x ^{3}) \]
