At a time when the achievements of the enlightenment are questioned, ridiculed, misunderstood and traduced by those who would reverse the progress of mankind, it is essential to nail one’s colours to the mast as a humanist. For me, that is not a turning away from mystery or a cold rational dispute with the numinous and spiritual in life, it is an acceptance of the awesome and splendid responsibility we each have for our own destinies, ethics and morals. I repudiate the authority of churches, revealed texts and vain unsubstantiated assertions and embrace the shared glories of humanitysintell
can someone simplify/ break this down so i can understand it properly (yes ik it's not maths don't complain)

from where did you not understand
nail one's colours to the mast means to publicly state your opinions about a subject
okay i will tell you from start
whenever there is something new and it is yet just theory, people question it if you remember about bruno's theory that earth revolves around sun was refused by everyone...but later galileo proved it so like that here it says that people will reject and misunderstand ur achievments of the enlightenment...and these people wont let mankind make progress in what they are doing. at this time it is necessary to publicly state that person's opinions as humanist

intellectual and spiritual struggle to understand the universe into which we are born with honesty, openness and faith in our own natures.
embrace the shared glories of humanity's intellectual and spiritual struggle to understand the universe into which we are born with honesty, openness and faith in our own natures. so says he wants to accept the shared glories of humanity's intellectual(ability of understanding) and spiritual struggle so that he understands the universe in which he is born with honesty(mystery of our own existence),openness and faith in our own nature(in our own nature as in what we are)
