Using quadratic formula A teacher has determined that the number of students in her Trig class has increased over a 5-year period at a rate of r given by the equation 5r²+14r-3=0. find r We got r=2 is this right?

OpenStudy (harsha19111999):

Hey I told that the answer is 1/5 it might be possible that makes 1 student for 5 years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 in 5 or 1/5? 1/5 is a fifth of a student which cant be right

OpenStudy (harsha19111999):

1 in 5 years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i think i get it now. it says RATE of R. not that R is no of student. so fraction can be true

OpenStudy (harsha19111999):

Yes

OpenStudy (harsha19111999):

That is rate not student its rate of student

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm, ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to simplify, if the no of students was x before, then after the five year term the no. increases by 1/5 of x + x hope this helped :)
