@Abhisar @dan815 @Hero @mathmale @ParthKohli @satellite73

OpenStudy (baseballer2014):

do u have to use substitution or elimination?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

subtract the equations from each other.

OpenStudy (mikezack123):

either @baseballer2014

OpenStudy (baseballer2014):

multiple the entire equation on the bottom by a -1 then subtract straight down. solve for Y and then once you have y in that equation plug it back into the top equation to get your x and that is the solution check the x,y in the bottom to make sure it all works out

OpenStudy (mikezack123):

how i do that?

OpenStudy (baseballer2014):

\[x-y=-3\]\[-1(x+3y=5)-1\]\[-x-3y=-5\] subtract the the equations from each other \[-4y=-8\] divide by -4 on each side\[y=2\] then plug the y back into the first equation \[x-(2)=-3\]\[x-2=-3\]add two to both sides\[x=-1\] that is the answer

OpenStudy (mikezack123):

THANK YOU SO MUCH @baseballer2014

OpenStudy (baseballer2014):

no problem
