Which equation represents a direct linear variation? A. y = x – 3 B. y = 1/x C. y = 1/3 x D. y = x^2

OpenStudy (keeli_grace):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

direct linear equation would mean that y intercept is equal to zero. A is going through (0,-3) and not through the origin. B is an inverse variation equation. C (if x is not part of the denominator) is a direct variation, in other words a line that goes through the origin. D is an exponential function that goes through the origin.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

also direct linear equation must be a line.

OpenStudy (keeli_grace):

That would make it C, right? Since it is a line that goes through its origin?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes C.

Thank you! :)
