i dont get how to factor 4x^2+14x=12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Move dat 12 over to the right side of the equation to make it -12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\begin{align*}4x^2+14x&=12\\ 4x^2+14x-12&=0\\ 2(2x^2+7x-6)&=0 \end{align*}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you cant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why cant you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is factorable........... not sure why he is telling you its not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks for the help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It not solved yet.. you dont need more help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i still cant do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will walk you through it. First Set your equation = to 0 by moving the 12 over to the left 4x^2+14x-12=0 is your new equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then wouldnt you find the lcd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eh forget about dat. these arent big enough numbers to care. Multiply 12 by 4 to get 48. Now what multiplies to 48 and adds to 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-48*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 and -6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close. 8 and 6 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have it from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes
