@MyChem I think that this is the third one. Sinkholes, nearly always, and caves, frequently, are formed by ground water causing erosion. Now, on top of this physical process is the joy of Karst topography. This is a name for the physical and chemical erosion of bedrock via acidic water. It causes beautiful landscapes (see attached photo). It is also responsible for all the sinkholes in the orange growing region of Florida. This is actually very helpful; the low spots allow cold air to settle farther away from the oranges. Hot springs are the same, the physical and chemical happens forms them. Basically, groundwater is heated and has to go somewhere.
