Are you able to post a picture of the figures?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
There you go :) @jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
thanks
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I was thinking A but I dont know
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so what transformations do you think are going on?

I can't see the choices
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Reflection across the y-axis
Vertical translation of 10 units
Vertical translation of 15 units
Reflection across the x-axis
OpenStudy (anonymous):
But then it cant be A cause it is shifted
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
hmm I spot a problem
OpenStudy (anonymous):
What is it?

the figure is perfectly symmetrical about its center horizontal axis
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so when you reflect it over the x axis, you get H to go to H'
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ohhhhhh I see
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
that's fine
but...you can also translate it down 10 units to make H land on H'
OpenStudy (anonymous):
But it shifts though

so there are 2 possible answers
both are perfectly plausible
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Hmmm, I think its B
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
D is just as likely
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so you can see the problem
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yeah, this is tricky!

you'll have to ask your teacher about it
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
there's no way to determine which one they want
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok thank you so much for your help!
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you're welcome
