Write the total ionic and net ionic equations for the reaction of 0.10M Cr(NO3)3 with a)0.1M NaOH and with b) 0.5M NH3
Where are you stuck? If you don't know where to start, maybe this article can help you: http://www.occc.edu/kmbailey/chem1115tutorials/Net_Ionic_Eqns.htm Once you think you understand the process, try to work yours out in a similar kind of way and I'll help you where you get stuck to help you figure it out.
I'm just stuck on how to write out the initial equations. I know how to do the rest from there
Well, first off you have to know what ions they break up into. On that link I gave you, scroll down to the very bottom and look at the practice problems. Click on "check answers" and see how they did it. It might make it obvious to just see that. I can explain that more if that's still giving you difficulty.
Cr(NO3)3 + 3NaOH -> 3NaNO3 + Cr(OH)3 ions \[ Cr ^{3+} + 3NO _{3}^{-} + 3Na ^{+} + 3OH ^{-} \rightarrow 3Na^+ + 3NO _{3} ^{-} + Cr (OH)_{3} \] and you can cancel out similar parts \[ Cr ^{3+} + 3OH ^{-} \rightarrow Cr (OH)_{3} \] do same thing with the other reaction (not really sure if i did it right but the way of work is still same)
