I dont get these questions, could someone explain? 1. Where in a banana plant does MEIOSIS take place? 2. Bananas have 11 pairs of chromosomes. How many chromosomes does each cell have at the end of MEIOSIS 1? 3. Unfortunately, cultivated banana MEIOSIS is kind of pointless since the banana seeds are sterile. Because of this, all bananas of one variety are clones of each other. Why is this bad for future of the banana plant?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

given that meiosis is a type of cell division that results in four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell, as in the production of gametes and plant spores then where in the banana plant is there this concentration of cells and chromosomes?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

When the zygote undergoes mitosis to begin to form an embryo, each cell will have the normal number of 46 chromosomes.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

and 3: well seeing as humans are doing all the growing and cultivating for the banana its become inheritantly lethargic and wont replicate itself in the wild and will die out

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i am certain about answers 2 and 3 but couldnt rightly tell you where exactly meiosis occurs in bananas

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i would say SOMATIC CELLS though if i had to say something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

such a weird question right?
