OpenStudy (zab505):

Given the trinomial x^2+bx-c where both the first sign is positive and the second sign is negative, the signs of the factors will be: A. one positive and one negative B. both negative C. both positive D. cannot determine

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

So x^2-bx+c?

OpenStudy (zab505):

yeah

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

The signs of the terms would have to be both negative because a negative + a negative number is still a negative number so that will give you your negative middle term (-bx) and it will give you your positive last term (+c) because a negative times a negative is a positive

OpenStudy (zab505):

Ah b then? Gracias!

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

Say we had x^2-2x-1 we'd have that factored as (x-1)(x-1) because x*x is x^2 -1x + -1x is -2x And -1*-1 is +1. Yes b, and you're welcome!
