How does climate affect ecosystems and the life within them?
@Muzzack @Loser66 @Compassionate
@myininaya
How do you feel climate effects them? Could YOU live in 90 degree weather? Yes? What about 190! Or even -90?
You need to work with me.
Well it will hurt to live in 190 or -90 despite the temperature a extreme difference in either direction will have vast consequences on the human body. @Compassionate
Correct, so climate can be, roughly, defined as temperature. Hot climates, warm climates, cold climates. So if we have a hot climate, like a desert with snakes, scorpions and cacti, they wouldn't survive well in cold climates. Cacti would die, snakes and scorpions will freeze to death since they need heat. Climates also change considerable factors like terrain and vegetation. Seals have an adaption to swimming quickly, but are slow on land. If they were in a dryer climate like those found in South Florida, they could starve to death because of their inability to adapt to a changing environment. Climate not only effects the predator, but prey. Sometimes animals can survive in a changing climate; like penguins who can live and swim in warmer conditions. However, their prey, such as small fish, may not live in areas were there is warmer weather, and they would likely starve to death.
Okay I understand thank you @Compassionate do you think you could help me with one more question?
Sure.
How do invasive species disrupt non-native ecosystems?
Think of it this way: what happens when a shark is introduced into a fish pool
It eats all the fish
@Compassionate
Exactly. So if an invasive species is introduced to an area, it may kill the population of animals currently there. So, for example, if a species that feeds off of bees is introduced to an area, the bees will die and the ecosystem will be effected DRASTICALLY because bees pollinate plants.
So the in the end the plants will die. Which would affect the humans that rely on the plants for food.
Exactly.
Alrighty thank you very much for helping me understand this! @Compassionate
