Can someone help and explain my history assignment please? I'll give a medal to anyone who helps me!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure whats the assignment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i'm in florida virtual school but heres the assignment. Identify three social problems, such as child labor or tenement housing, discussed in the lesson and research ways in which government regulations or organizations have helped address these issues. Use this information to complete the Social Problems and Solutions Chart.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically they want you to choose 3 topics circulating around social problems (i'm guessing issues around the early 1900's?) and explain how they benefited the social problems that you chose, like (what did it do to help the people with these issues.,etc) i'm unsure about the chart thought.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll send you a link to a chart

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@vexus I dont understand the questions on the chart

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i cant access it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or see the chart/questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmm okay dang

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try taking a picture of it then uploading it or copy and paste it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@vexus see if you can see that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi! I was a student on FLVS and I did this assignment! Do you still need help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's first start off with learning what the Industrial Age was! This time was very special to us Americans and those in other countries because, we made HUGE advancements and it helped the economy abundantly. But with ever great thing, bad eventually comes. Some of the cons of the industrial revolution; it cut jobs for workers, with machines capable of doing things in half the time, the need for a large workforce was unnecessary, it increased pollution which did us bad environmentally!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I still do need help! i'm just struggling filling out the chart for this assignment! @makaio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've done this assignment as well. It's really easy to fill out if you have the assignment open as you read the lesson. Fill it in as you move along, If you need a better explanation/help let me know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like dont get it like idk :( @Andraste

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on, give me one sec while I get my file.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much!! @Andraste

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So first pick three topics to fill in the chart. I fill it along with you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay umm I guess we could do child labor, tenement housing, and sanitation i guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, child labor first. Do you think it was addressed socially, politically, etc??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: groups and speakers talked to spread awareness of child workers and their working conditions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was addressed socially right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could it also have been addressed politically too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was, but not that much because child workers were an overlooked cause. People mainly focused on adults, their wages, and working conditions. No one really bothered to change the conditions or laws for children until later on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay yea thats right i remember now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So speakers and other groups began to raise awareness which is social rather than political. Addressing it socially caused political changes, law involvement, and regulations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait are we filling out the first colum where it says How was the Social Problem addressed during the Industrial Age (social movement, law, etc.)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No this is for the second question. For the first, simply put something along the lines of "This movement was addressed socially during the industrial revolution."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the third question (Is the Social Problem still an issue today? How?") think about what you've heard on the news and what you've seen, experienced, and know. Do you think it is still an issue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: The social movements caused changes in laws and it is regulated now and highly illegal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, not really since they made it a law that you cant really work till your 14 or 15 and you can only work a certain amount of hours each day and week.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Expand on that by two sentences, and you'll be set to go for that section. You could mention how businesses are regulated or how it's illegal, or how it's prevented.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I did.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand the assignment now, or do you still need help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes for the most part but I just have a few questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tenement housing was addressed socially as well right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, that addressed through laws.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, not really. I thought people adressed the issuse not laws.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It wasn't like the child labor where people came together and spread awareness. People already knew about the poor conditions of tenement housing. Speaking can only sway so many and do so much. You can speak about the poor housing conditions, but laws would change it. Laws and regulation "fixed" most of the issues like lighting, water system, sewer systems, and sanitation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OKay that makes more sense now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Laws also placed a maxed capacity on most apartments and houses, and made sure houses couldn't be built with poor and cheap material.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the last question. Do you think it is still an issue today?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, before I forget, for the second question, do you think it was solved successfully?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes because law were passed to make the houses/apartments have better living conditions for the people that lived in them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct. do you think it's still an issue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, because house/ apartments today are built out of good durable supplies, have indoor plumbing, and they still have a maximum capacity on how many people can live in them so they don't get over crowded.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually it is still sort of an issue. It's not as bad as it was, but in areas that are endure poverty, there are still issues with the living conditions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that endure* sorry i didnt mean to that are there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OKay so now sanitation i'm not sure how that was addressed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To make this easier you might want to consider using poverty instead since sanitation is basically tenement housing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or another movement

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll use poverty then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Poverty is the easiest because it's almost the middle ground of tenement housing and child labor. So do you think it was changed socially, politically, etc?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm i'm thinking politically maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because poverty is like not having or making a lot of money to support your self or family or something like that and it has to do with the government

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is half correct, but it was addressed socially. It still is addressed socially, almost every day in a news paper you will hear of movements, groups, speaks, and so on who want to talk about poverty, debt, and the wage gap.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Laws hardly change that and neither do politics unfortunately

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically people took to the movement socially because no one really cared. the rich wanted to stay rich and couldn't be bothered. The same for the government

OpenStudy (anonymous):

workers were overworked, over payed, and lived in poor conditions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

under payed*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would you put that for the second question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, basically it was not successful. there were reforms, laws, and movements to try and change poverty but it never got rid of it and poverty continues to grow.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So knowing that, is it still a problem today?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: Homeless people, hungry kids, unsanitary conditions, low pay, not being able to afford healthcare,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lmao sorry for the mini rant on poverty, I just care a lot about that topic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, because everyday you see people out on the street asking for food or money, housing being foreclosed, people living in horrible conditions, and kids starving out on the streets because their parents dont have enough to feed them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you any column that has 1 sentence, try to make it at least 3 because flvs teachers are kind of iffy on requirements and will you a lower grade for the assignment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you finish your assignment? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes all i have to to is finish the questions i have to come up with 2 more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are questions after the chart?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea like you know the interview questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also are you good with English?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so I have to write a thesis statement with this prompt... Are advertisements aimed at teenagers effective? And, are they ethical? and ive been stuck on this for days!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My teacher is so picky on how she wants it written and i'm just about to give up and take the bad grade.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your thesis will be a mini summary of your essay, so basically your topic + position

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know what it is.. i'm just struggling writing one based off of that prompt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay. So what's your position on the topic and i'll try to write one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that advertisements aimed at teens are effective but they aren't ethical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you think it isn't ethical

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually i'm not really sure what ethical means.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ethical basically means humane. right or wrong morally

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if something is ethical then its right but if its not ethical then its wrong?
