I've checked out the illustration and see that we have a triangle with two angles and the side in between them given. Which Law, the Law of Sines or the Law of Cosines, would likely be the better choice when your goal is to solve for one or more of the other sides of this triangle?

law of sines

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Good. Are you now able to apply the Law of Sines to find the length of side b? Hint: You'll have to solve this triangle for angle C first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could do a/sin64deg=9.3/sin149deg i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How should I put it in the calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sin 149 = 0.55 Sing 64 = 0.89

OpenStudy (amistre64):

one thing that might help is to realize that big angles produce big sides, small angles produce small sides. as is, a < b .... so only 2 options are viable at best.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

also, a triangle angles measure to 180 64 +85 ----- 149 31 is angle C ---- 180 since 31 is the smallest angle of the 3, then 9.3 has to be the smallest side ... which narrows the options to only one that fits.
