Does the following table represent a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x | y ------ 2 | 1 3 | 1 4 | -3 5 | -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so, but I wanted to double check.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

This relation is a function. It wouldn't be a function if there were 2 or more y-values to one x-value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What does that mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I read that wrong, I had to read it three times over. #Dyslexia

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

So, you see, like in the question you posted. Two points will be at (2,1) and (3,1). This is ok, it'll still be a function. But, a relation isn't a function if there are two or more y-values to an x-value. So, like, a function can't have a points at (1,2) and (1,3) in it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because a function cant intercept cross Y more than once, right?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Right.

Thank you! :D
