titration lab method for detecting a stomach ulcer using barium sulphate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@angel20 Titration? My understanding (having one done myself) of ulcer detection of barium sulphate was that a person would drink some barium sulfate and a chemical to produce lots of gas. This would result in the barium sulphate being concentrated in a pool in the ulcer. In an x-ray this pool is clearly visible. It was quite a miserable process. My stomach felt like it would explode from the gas.

i know it sounds weird (titration) but i have a planning and design lab to do and my teacher want it done by a titration method but thanks alot for the insite however

@angel20 Well, the mixing of the two chemicals, barium sulfate and the other chemical they gave me, is what produces the gas. The amount of each that are given a person are likely determined by the pH of the stomach. Meaning that the chemicals need to be given to create a final solution (barium sulfate, stomach acids, and the third chemical) of a certain pH, which is calculated in a titration.

thanks alot i'll try to work with this
