CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! I CAN'T GET ANY HELP IN THE SCIENCE SECTION!!!!!! Which of these represents three molecules of carbon dioxide? 3CO2 3C3O2 C3O6 3C2O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this chem??

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Do you know the formula for carbon dioxide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, physical science @FriedRice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and no i don't know the formula @kirbykirby

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Well look at the name: Carbon.. 1 carbon and Di-oxide... which should tell you have you have 2 oxygen atoms , or more specifically two \(\large O^{2-}\) oxide ions Now Carbon can form 4 bons, (either 4+ or 4-\), so can you infer what the formula is?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

4 bonds*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Co2?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

yup perfect :) Now you just need to see how you can write 3 of these molecules

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3CO2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

yes :) indeed. CO2 is the whole molecule itself, so you can;t change it's molecular formula to say that you have more of them (You just add a number in front to say how many of those molecules you have)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks u guys!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know who 2 give the medal 2 though... :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give it to kerby

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kirby*

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

i'll give you one too :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for ur help 2 though :)

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
