You need to start off by figuring out how many calories that it will take to feed 6 horses. What do you think when you are looking at the table?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JuniorEinstein1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 horses 90 ,000 calories @mathygurl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. And the question says that 1000 calories cost $.15. So, if you need 90,000 calories, how much does it cost?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$135.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Close. It is actually 15 cents for every 1000 calories. The decimal is not very easy to see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do the same thing that you just did but type in 0.15 instead of 15.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup! :-D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok now how would I write this correct as a equation broken down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What part do you need to make an equation for? Just the number of calories it takes to feed the horses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the part I get confused by

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is what it looked like in the picture that you posted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeap look at the example it says to put h for horse. It's alegebra one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, let me try to help you write the expression then. When you figured out that 6 horses needed 90,000 calories, how did you do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just did it regular not in equation form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean? Did you use the table to figure out how many calories you needed for 5 horses and then used that number to figure it out for 6 horses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because, honestly, that is just about what I did to get the 90,000.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So, how did you figure out the amount for 5 horses from the table? (This is not a trick question, I just want to know what your line of thinking is so I can help you actually make the expression).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@agent0smith @campbell_st @Abhisar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

number of horses 4 and 2 60,000 and 30,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to find slope, JuniorEinstein1?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

welll 4 horses + 1 horse = 5 horses so 60000 + 15000 = 75000 calories its a linear relationship Calories = 15000 x number of horses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's 6 horses no ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the number of calories needed goes up by 15,000 for each horse, the formula would be Calories = h * 15,000, like campbell said.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then, if you wanted to check to make sure your formula works, you would just plug in "6" for h.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should get 90,000.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok but @campbell_st did you do it for 5 ? isn't it six ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Felling dizzy :( how do you write it out ?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I did do it for 5.... just to show how you can use the table to find any value... 6 horses = 4 + 2 calories = 60000 + 30000 thats from just reading the values in the table....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I get it - So you write it - 6h=4+2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you can do it that way.... its just one method ... since its a linear relationship
